Symposium Art and Innovation: The Future of Interdisciplinarity

Join us  Wednesday 19 March for a lively afternoon of connecting art practice to innovation, and probing the future of interdisciplinarity. ‘Art and Innovation: The Future of Interdisciplinarity’ is an initiative of The Netherlands Study Centre for Technology Trends (STT) and Het Nieuwe Insitituut.

For STT, March 19 marks the end of the foresight study in which new relations between art, science and technology were explored. Het Nieuwe Instituut will adopt the findings of these explorations, and will apply them in the development of their practice-based researches.

During Art and Innovation: The Future of Interdisciplinarity we will discuss the findings of the STT foresight study, reflect on interdisciplinary, ‘designerly’ approaches to social problems and engage in a debate on the relation between art and innovation.

teller Google Art Project: meer dan 30 duizend kunstwerken en 151 instellingen

“… GoogleArtproject.com bestaat sinds vorig jaar en bevatte al de kunst van zeventien musea, waaronder in Nederland het Van Gogh Museum en het Rijksmuseum. Het wordt nu in één klap bijna tien keer zo groot. Erbij komen Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Kröller-Müller, het Gemeentemuseum Den Haag en het Paleis op de Dam. In totaal zijn er 451 schilderijen uit Nederlandse musea te zien, zo maakt Google vandaag bekend. In België wordt het Museum voor Schone Kunsten in Brussel toegevoegd.

In de tweede versie van Google Art is de diversiteit ook flink verhoogd: er is niet alleen westerse kunst te zien. Zo zijn het Museum voor Islamitische Kunst in Qatar en de Nationale Galerij voor Moderne Kunst in India vandaag toegevoegd en is Braziliaanse straatgraffiti,  en eeuwenoude Afrikaanse rotskunst aan de digitale collectie toegevoegd.”

“What is the ‘Art Project’?

A unique collaboration with some of the world’s most acclaimed art museums to enable people to discover and view more than a thousand artworks online in extraordinary detail.

• Explore museums with Street View technology:virtually move around the museum’s galleries, selecting works of art that interest you, navigate though interactive floor plans and learn more about the museum and you explore.
• Artwork View: discover featured artworks at high resolution and use the custom viewer to zoom into paintings. Expanding the info panel allows you to read more about an artwork, find more works by that artist and watch related YouTube videos.
• Create your own collection: the ‘Create an Artwork Collection’ feature allows you to save specific views of any of the 1000+ artworks and build your own personalised collection. Comments can be added to each painting and the whole collection can then be shared with friends and family.”
